ChatGPT Prompts for a Small Business Marketing Plan

Create a practical small business marketing plan with ChatGPT prompts. See example inputs, useful constraints and templates to customize for your business.

Give the AI a usable business brief

A marketing-plan prompt needs a business, an audience, a goal and practical limits. “Market my business” leaves all four open. A stronger starting point explains what you sell, who needs it, what you want them to do and how much work you can realistically produce.

Use the following fictional brief as a pattern: a neighborhood bakery wants more customers to attend its Saturday bread tasting. It can spend $200 on promotion, publish three social posts and send one email to its existing subscriber list. It has no verified conversion-rate history.

A prompt you can adapt

Act as a small-business marketing planner.
Business: [BUSINESS AND LOCATION]
Audience: [CUSTOMER GROUP AND NEED]
Goal: [ONE ACTION WE WANT PEOPLE TO TAKE]
Offer and verified facts: [APPROVED DETAILS]
Budget: [BUDGET]
Available time and channels: [CAPACITY]

Create a four-week marketing plan. For each week, give the objective,
channel, message, production task, owner and measure.
Keep the total proposed spending within the budget.
Separate known facts from assumptions. Do not invent customer research,
competitor pricing or predicted sales. Ask about essential missing inputs.

Review the plan against your actual capacity

For the bakery, a proposed daily video series would exceed the stated capacity. A $300 ad test would exceed the budget. Those are straightforward reasons to revise a draft before considering the writing quality.

Check whether every task connects to the goal. A post announcing the tasting can support attendance; a broad brand-awareness project may be useful later but needs a clear reason to take time from this week’s campaign.

Turn recommendations into an operating plan

  1. Choose the few activities you can complete.
  2. Assign a real owner and a realistic deadline to each.
  3. Supply approved facts for any promotional copy.
  4. Set a measure you can observe, such as clicks to the event page or recorded attendance.
  5. Review the result after the campaign and use that evidence in the next brief.

Useful follow-up instructions

Reduce this plan to three posts and one email per week.
Identify the assumptions we should verify before spending money.
For each task, explain which part of the campaign goal it supports.
Rewrite any proposed claim that is not supported by our brief.
